6. Poker Winnings, Back in Its Proper Place.
In 1858, Robert Fallon was killed by some men he was playing poker with. According to them, Robert Fallon had it coming as he cheated his way to win the $600 pot. Robert Fallon’s seat on the table was now empty but none of the players wanted to claim the now “cursed” money so they asked some random guy to take Fallon’s seat and gave him the unlucky $600. By the time the authorities have arrived to investigate, the new player managed to turn the $600 into $2,200 in winnings. The authorities ordered the players to give the original $600 to Robert Fallon’s next of kin. What transpired next was so unbelievable that everybody had to take a step back to reflect. The random guy turned out to be Robert Fallon’s son who he abandoned seven years before.
