Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to personally experience every wonder our vast world has to offer. Fortunately, photography is there to give us a chance of a glimpse into different lives that are beyond our own.

The amazing photographs that you’re about to see is the cream of the crop shortlist of this year’s Sony World Photography Awards. Covering all types of visual experiences, from landscapes to people and animals, the 173,444 entries from 171 countries around the world were so far the most in the competition’s history. The winners will be announced on April 23 at the Sony World Photography Awards Gala Ceremony to be held at the Hilton Park Lane, London.
