80’s hair is infamous for use of copious amounts of product (hello Aqua Net), highly-teased bangs, and for being the only decade to make totally frizzy hair a good thing. But, 80’s hair wasn’t all bad. There were some styles that were actually pretty cool– and are coming back in style now. Here are 80’s hairstyles that are actually trendy again.
1. Wild and free high pony
Put your ponytail up top or on the side…anywhere but the back. This creates a free spirit look that’s all about having a good time.
2. Get your volume on
Teasing your hair up never looked so glam. Back comb your hair to push it up and out and add some high-profile eye shadow for a look that really sizzles.
3. Bubble pony
No boring ponytails around here! Why be boring when you can do something fun and easy like this. After pulling your hair into a high pony, create little bubbles and secure with an elastic.
4. Lift it up
80’s hair was all about the lift. The higher off the face, the better. Now you can tease hair that’s got a soft curl for a little more va-voom.
5. French braid
Braids are all the rage right now but it’s still essential to know how to do a basic french braid. Rock this 80’s look the easy way– braid from the top, all the way down to the ends.
6. Put a bow in your hair
We’re going for a soft and flirty look, rather than a Minnie Mouse look-alike. A bow that’s imperfect and off to the side? Perfection.
7. Be edgy
Get that wet look and side shave look down by french braiding back on side and tousling the other side to the back.
8. Shave patterns
If you’re bold enough to do a side shave, you might want to go one step further and get a pattern shaved in. This was all the rage for men in the 80’s but now it’s the ladies turn!
9. Crimp it, crimp it good
Naya Rivera is killing this soft crimp look that was so popular in the 80’s (and came back in the 90’s thanks to Britney Spears). Make it fresh by creating a soft wave, instead of a harsh one, by using a straightener.
10. Hot pink is our master
So, we are still LOVING pastel-toned hair but our inner rock goddess still loves some hot pink hair. Dip-dyed ends?? Even cooler.
11. Scunchie madness
Scrunchies are back– at least on the catwalks. But we’re sure your high bun would still look hot while wrapped in a sparkly scrunchie.
12. Side shave and tease
We love this hairstyle for all you ladies with amazing natural curls. Create a faux hawk look by gently teasing the hair up and the side shave just makes you look like a bada$$.
13. Short and punk
Even short-haired gals can rock the 80’s ‘do. This choppy shag is the perfect way to snag some throwback points.
14. Teasing up the middle
Teasing the center of your hair while twisting back the sides is an easy way to sport an 80’s-inspired rocker look.
15. Crimp is key
Crimping is cool again– as long as it’s soft and understated. This softly crimped look could be braid remnants or it could be a soft crimping iron.
16. Soft curl with volume on top
Think Farrah Fawcett– but more updated. You want the look to be smooth and flawless– not sticky and crunchy.
17. Punk glam
For big events, a little bit of texture and volume is all that’s needed to skyrocket your looks.
18. Shine ’em down
We love this 80’s-inspired faux hawk that makes her hair look shiny and fresh. This is a fun look for going out dancing.
19. 80’s style on fleek
Everything about this look– from the blue-tinted hair, to the headband, the circular sunnies, to the edgy denim jacket– just screams 80’s.
20. Try your hand at a side braid
Braiding your hair straight back and keeping it tight to the head while teasing the other side can be seriously cool. We love the thick, winged liner too.
