The beautiful and unique Republic of Cuba is getting the attention of the world’s media by starting to have positive conversations and agreements with the USA, after decades of sanctions and diplomatic problems. Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, with over 11 million inhabitants, and is the second most populous. Havana is the capital, and the country itself is well-known for being very diverse. Cuba’s people, culture and customs come from the aboriginal Taino and Ciboney people, as well as the Spanish, since it was colonized by them for so long. Then there was the introduction of African slaves, which contributes to life in Cuba today. The country also had a close relationship with the Soviet Union in the Cold War.
