Nobody likes waking up each day to go to work. It can be such a drag. But, we’ve got ways to help you through the day. Implementing these small changes can make a huge difference in your attitude and your health. Because, your job is about so much more than just a paycheck– it’s how you live. So, treat yourself well. Here are 18 easy changes you should make to have a smoother workday.
1. Pack up your stuff the night before
To avoid a morning scramble, pack up all the things you’ll need to take with you to work the evening before. That way, you’re rested and ready in the morning for anything that comes your way.
2. Eat a breakfast packed with protein
Cereal will leave your stomach rumbling just a few hours later– fill yourself with good stuff– like this sunny-side-up egg with tomato and hummus on whole grain toast. You’ll feel so much better and fuller too.
3. Or fill up on a healthy smoothie
These things can help you stay full too. Blend up a bunch of good stuff and get your morning started right.
4. Bring a lunch that excites you
It’s important to look forward to your food. We love this mushroom, sweet potato, and quinoa scramble with sprouts and green onions on top. It looks delicious and healthy and will get you pumped up for lunch time.
5. Use your commute time wisely
Find a favorite radio show and listen in daily or read or listen to books on your phone. There are so many apps out there that can help you with this. If you ride a train, search for an interesting podcast or book to listen to.
6. Make yourself take breaks
It’s important that you get a break every once in a while. You need to relax, take a minute for yourself and unwind. Go for a little stroll around the office. Set a timer and when it goes off just take a break.
7. Sit down, stand up
Buy a desk converter that allows you to stand or sit during your workday and change it up. Standing up for work can be good for you.
8. DIY a treadmill desk
Bring your own treadmill and make it work. Just be sure to go slow– you don’t want to fall off!
9. Sit the right way
Make sure your computer is eye-level and at least 18 inches away. Type with your elbows at a 90-degree angle from your body. Sit up straight and place your feet flat on the floor.
10. Look away from your computer
You can set up a program called eye care on your computer that will remind you to look away every once in a while. It can be a real eye saver!
11. Leave the office on time
Don’t hang around forever because you’ve got so much to do. Your work can wait another day. Don’t guilt yourself over this– just get out of there. Move along, you’re free!
12. Keep warm
If you have a cold office atmosphere (most of us do) bring a warm blanket or sweater that stays at work and will keep you warm when you need it.
13. Ask for plants around the office or bring your own
Plants clear the air and add some earthy green stuff to your office space. They’re important! If your office doesn’t want to provide any, then bring your own little one.
14. Sit by the window
You’ll be using more natural light, which can help with your mood. You’ll also feel a bit more free. This is better for you than being stuck inside.
15. Invest in some cute and useful items for your desk
Get a few things that are cutesy and fun and you’ll cheer up whenever you see them.
16. Make it your own
Make your desk space your own little nook by bringing decor items, photo frames or colorful things that give the space light and personality.
17. Take some deep breaths
Do a little bit of meditation at your desk to clear your mind.
18. Do some desk yoga
When you’re taking breaks, take a little time to do desk yoga. You’ll be amazed at how much better it makes you feel.
