Do women rule the world? Well…they do, but not according to these photos. Most of the world’s important photos, showing world leaders together are very telling of how many women make it to the top of an organization. Women do make up half the population, shouldn’t there be more of them in these photos? At least more than one or two? Here’s what it looks like when you take men out of world leader photos.
1. Meeting at the white house
Why is Hilary Clinton the only woman visible in this entire photo? As leaders of the United States make important decisions, shouldn’t more women be involved?
2. Leaders at the G20 Summit
Here are some of the most notable world leaders all sitting together in one photo…the only downside to this? There are only 3 women in the photo.
3. World leaders watch the ending of a game at the G20 Summit
Too bad there’s only one woman in the photo.
4. Famous film directors
We’re just sitting over here scratching our heads as to why there aren’t more women who take on major film projects?
5. Just one woman
Sure, she’s front and center, but she’s also lonely out there all by herself.
6. More leaders and few women
Sure, there are two women for every two men in this photo– but we can still do better than this.
7. Men in charge?
In the chef industry, women are frequently outnumbered, in this photo its three to one.
8. Opening skit on Saturday Night Live
Lena Dunham shares the stage with a whole bunch of men, though she could have handled it perfectly well on her own.
9. Female military leaders
Women are capable of leading the world, just like men, even in the military. Why don’t we see more of them at the top?
10. Men man the tables
If this council had only the women speaking, there would just be some conversation between two women.
11. What’s the deal?
Most of these teams don’t even have a woman on the panel and only one team had two women. Women are just as smart, fast-thinking, and capable– so why aren’t they at the top too?
12. Emma Watson speaks at the United Nations General Assembly
Ironically enough, she spoke about gender inequality and the opportunities that women don’t have to get ahead. Her speech was pretty much the sum of what these photos are showing you.
13. Women at the United Nations
We see one woman in this shot, though there are many who could hold this position, teach these men and solve the world’s problems just as well.
14. We need more women
Join the movement– use the hashtag #morewomen to see women given fair opportunities in the work place and the ability to contribute and hold positions as a leader. Women matter too!
