Nobody likes going into a stinky place–whether it’s a home, a hallway, a bathroom or a den. Our sense of smell can also affect our first impression. If we smell something that’s not nice, we’ll have a negative association with that place. So, here to help we’ve found some amazing home hacks to make your place smell incredible.
1. Use herbs and citrus
Use common items found in your kitchen, like lemon, rosemary, sage, basil, cinnamon, orange or mint to create a fresh-smelling scent that wafts throughout the whole house.
2. Get the stink out
Just stick a few of those tea bags in your dirty gym shoes and you’ll be glad that the smell is gone!
3. Two caps…not two cups
One tumblr user said that they used two CUPS of vanilla extract and her house smelled like the Pillsbury doughboy’s buttonhole for a whole month….so be careful.
4. Use deodorizer on the vents
Febreze makes these tiny deodorizers for your car vents…but why not stick them on the vents in your house for a good smell.
5. Add Gain tablets to a wax melter
Melt Gain tablets in a wax melter to bring nice smells to the whole home. This is a nice way to make your house smell like laundry.
If you’ve got a stinky area of the house, place some charcoal in the room and close the door for a few hours. Charcoal soaks up odors, so when you come back, the icky smell will be gone!
7. Coffee bean candles
Burning a candle in a jar or bowl of coffee beans will not only make things smell nice, but it will give your house that rich coffeehouse smell.

If you love tropical scents, boil lemon, lime, orange, pineapple and a little coconut extract for something extra fruity.
12. Clean and fresh with Kool-aid
Did you know that you can clean your dishwasher with Kool-aid? It’s true! Just run a packet of Kool-aid in the detergent box and your dishwasher will come out smelling like a fresh pitcher of lemonade.
13. Baking soda for the win
Baking soda is a master at soaking up bad smells. Combine baking soda and water in a crock-pot for a few hours when you’re in need of some serious stink-soaking.
14. Freshen up that TP
You can even make your toilet paper smell good by placing a few drops of essential oils in the center of the roll.
15. Coca-Cola toilet scrub
If you’ve got a smelly toilet, grab some Coke! Rinsing your toilet bowl with Coca-Cola will get rid of bad smells.
16. Fresh fan
Simply stick some laundry sheets on the back of a blowing fan to deliver fresh smells to the entire room.
