No, we’re not obsessed with the 90’s…ok, maybe just a little bit. But, just try to understand– for many of us that was the age of our youth and the decade before we had to grow up and get responsibilities. It’s a by-gone era that we love looking back on. Here are 18 examples of kid clothes worn by girls in the 90’s
1. Sunflower-printed anything
We loved sunflowers back in the golden age and we wore them on EVERYTHING…shorts, skirts, t-shirts, shoes…you get the idea.
2. Lisa Frank-inspired colors
Admit it– you were all about the psychedelic rainbow of color that was Lisa Frank gear. You wore it, you owned and you pored over the magazine each time it came out.
3. A whole drawerful of colorful clips
If the 90’s was the age of colors, butterfly clips reined supreme. Nothing made your hair look more fly than a whole row of clips in a variety of colors and patterns.
Why use a regular ponytail holder when you can accessorize your hair with a scrunchie. It was the hottest hair style trend of the decade.
5. Shell necklaces
If you went somewhere with a beach, you had to come back wearing a shell necklace, or it was as if it never happened. Those shells were straight up proof that you set foot on a beach.
6. Choker necklaces
Legend has it that whoever wore the most of these was also the most popular girl in class.
7. Denim overalls
And you always wore them with one side left undone. That was just the cool way to do it.
The bandana epidemic from the 90’s was the coolest way to cover up a bad hair day. But most of us just looked like little pioneer children wearing them.
9. Jelly shoes
These shoes were all the rage in kindergarten. They got dirty easily and the plastic made your feet stink, but you loved them nonetheless.
10. See-through watches
Digital watches in clear plastic colors were the coolest. Who wants a plain old metal watch when you can have a futuristic-looking one.
11. Stick-on earrings
You loved feeling so fancy wearing EARRINGS! Except for then you’d feel annoyed five minutes later when they fell off.
12. Plastic Goody barrettes
These came in all sorts of styles and colors. No matter what type of hair you had, you wore barrettes on the daily.
13. Ugly sparkly t-shirt clip things
We aren’t sure why anyone would actually use this…but it was the 90’s. Whatevs.
14. The most hideous print patterns of all time
Crazy tie-dye with stripes was in. And you wore pants in a print like this at least once in your life. You know you did.
15. A sweater that your grandma made you
It was warm and soft and made you feel loved. Who can blame you for wanting to wear it?
16. Tie-dye t-shirts
These were even cooler if you made them yourself.
17. Stuff with hearts all over it
Hearts, stars, and anchors are the stuff of little girl’s wardrobes. Even heart sweaters in awful colors.
