#1 More About The Mysterious “Black Sea Devil”
Black Sea Devils have a huge antenna on the top of their heads that lights up, thanks to the bioluminescence of the sea bacteria. This helps them to hunt down their prey in the deep, dark depths of the ocean. In fact, the glowing light they emit actually attract their prey towards them, until they are so close to their feared and voracious jaw full of sharp teeth that it’s too late to escape. The female fish can measure up to 20 inches, while the male is around 10 times smaller. In fact, male Black Sea Devils cannot survive alone, and depend on the females as a parasite to live on. This is just one more interesting fact about the species to add to the very long list. For those of you who have seen the Disney/Pixar movie ‘Finding Nemo’, the Black Sea Devil is the fish that chases the two main characters, Nemo and Dory. You learn something new every day, right?
